Finally the day has come........
Everything must be settle on the spot.........
Friends for yesterdays, ENEMIES for the day.................
Today is our school annual Footdrill Competition. People have been practicing for days and months, so long just only for this moment, for a very final showdown on the drill ground.
There are total of 8 uniform groups in our school that took part in this competition:
1. The Boys’ Brigade (Briged Putera)
2. The Girls’ Brigade (Briged Puteri)
3. Kadet Polis
4. KRS
5. Pengakap
6. Pandu Puteri
7. St. John Ambulance
8. Red Crescent Society (PBSM)
I’m from The Boys’ Brigade and I hold the responsibility as the commander of the team. This is my first time experience of being the commander of a team for competition.
Months before the competition, we had plenty of ‘hell style’ practices for this competition. For example, we had things like ‘night drills’ which means practices at night. This is due the combination of our members from morning and also afternoon session. This is very normal to us as we had made this almost our culture.
The MOST extreme part is the final week before the competition where we had almost everyday practice from 10.30a.m. till 3.30p.m. We practiced very hard and gained esprit de corps and spirits among ourselves.
I love the part where we put on our boots. Our boots are known as our ‘Ultimate Weapons’ as it can cover the minor untogetherness. When we practice at the ‘Dewan Tertutup’ sometimes when we were too tired under the sun, the echo of our stamping is really loud at nice. There is where we gain our spirits from.
>>>>>>>THE DAY OF IT<<<<<<<
Before the uniform inspection, I motivate the boys as I seldom did that. I was very glad when NCOs, officers and those seniors came and raise our ‘FIRE’ and gave us supports. I want to give my thanks from the deepest of my heart.
‘’Sekarang, dipersilakan Pasukan Briged Putera.............’’ Then it was our turn to show our skills. When the team marches in, there is a kind of wind that is very strong. Of course the wind is not as strong as the KL State drill 2008 1st team of 3rd KL Coy but it still ‘boleh tahan’. Everything goes well. From my view, I can see some mistakes. Let me list it out so that next generations can work on it:
1. The part where people start the basic drill, 1 line’s alignment out- Edgar’s line.
2. Buka Barisan during perlahan jalan although the stamping is together but the lines are a bit, slightly out.
3. Basic drill basically is like that. Now the formation, people forget as usual each year will happen.
4. My haversack snaps off. Next time please put safety pin at the back of the sticking thing (Velcro) on the haversack.
5. Timing is too fast for some parts. I finally figure this out why. It is because the ‘cepat jalan’ no hand swing. People tend to go fast. When you swing your hands you will not be fast because it takes time to swing your hands. So, if possible next time don’t do this kind of formation.
RESUME*********************
The time during competition, I used my voice till the highest level of my shouting skills – Loud & Clear without saving any voices. Everything goes well until my haversack snaps off. I march on without caring about that. When we march out, the crowd claps very loud.
After I fall the team out, I cried. This is my second time of crying because of drill. The first time is when I made a wrong move in the KL State drill 2008 final night practice. So, this is the second time. I never cried it out loud and I ‘tahan’ it. Just a little tears drip off from my eyes. It is very hard to stop it because once I think about the haversack I just couldn’t control myself. Wai Kien and Justin came to me and calm me down. Thank you, comrades..........
After I see the Kadet Polis drill, I regain the hope of winning again. They have done quiet a lot of obvious mistakes as in their uniform and drill movements. Anyway, they are still the strongest opponent we are facing.
Finally, this came to an end. The results are out. Everyone gathered at the competition ground. When they are announcing ‘’Tempat Ketiga dimenangi oleh......’’,
my heartbeat went double because I hope it doesn’t turn up like last year....... ‘’PBSM’’
My heart is saying ‘’Yes’’. Next, ‘’tempat kedua dimenangi oleh....................’’ Everyone gets very nervous. It is BB or Kadet or others................ .......... ‘’Kadet Polis’’.
Then, people claps and cheer for Kadet Polis as they are the famous one BUT our seniors’ clapping are not for them but for us....... hahahahah LOL..... It is so funny I can say. ‘’Tempat pertama dimenangi oleh pasukan Briged Putera’’. YO, Yeah man!!!!!!!!!
After 2 years never get champions, finally we made this comes true again!!!!!!!
Besides, I had also won the award called ‘Ketua Platun Terbaik’, also known as the Best Commander Award. I was really happy.
Below are the results of it:
JOHAN : Briged Putera
NAIB JOHAN : Kadet Polis
TEMPAT KETIGA : PBSM
I feel very joyful that day. Many of our Ex-members came and cheer for us when we did the 3rd KL cheer ending. Thank you boys, you all are the ONE that bring back the BB’s glory in SMK Taman Desa. I salute you all, my brothers.........
